Outdoor Addition with Pergola, Kitchen, and Privacy Wall for Next-Level Entertaining
Turning a space to relax into a space to Also Host & entertain
We had the pleasure of enhancing a backyard space that already offered a beautiful place to kick back and unwind poolside. This time, the homeowners wanted to take their backyard a step further.
They were looking for a space that could do both: a comfortable place to sit and unwind, and a dynamic area for entertaining. The end result is a new outdoor living space with a summer kitchen, a motorized pergola for sun and shade, and a slatted privacy wall that ties the entire backyard together and makes the space easy to enjoy any time of day.
Location
Project Goals
- Have a place to entertain
- A space that offers sun and shade at whim
- Maintain privacy from the neighbors in the new area

Materials & Features That Bring It All Together
Every element of this space was chosen to balance durability, function, and a clean, cohesive look with the home.
At the center is an Azenco motorized pergola, giving the homeowners full control over sun and shade throughout the day. With the touch of a button, they can open it up for sunlight or close it for coverage, making the space comfortable no matter the conditions.
Beneath the pergola, the custom summer kitchen anchors the space and makes it fully functional for entertaining. It features:
- Blaze appliances for reliable, high-performance cooking
- A brick façade that ties in with the home’s aesthetic
- Granite countertops for durability and easy maintenance
- A built-in bar top for casual seating and gathering
To address privacy without closing off the space, we incorporated an aluminum slat wall. This creates separation from neighboring properties while still allowing airflow and light. It also provides a clean backdrop for mounting a TV that can be viewed from the pool.

DESIGNING AROUND THE CHALLENGES
Like most backyards, this one came with a few things we had to work around.
The biggest challenge was space. They wanted to add a full entertaining area with an outdoor kitchen, seating, and a TV without making everything feel tight or crowded. So it really came down to being intentional with layout and making sure the space still felt open and easy to use.
Privacy was another big focus. They wanted some separation from the neighbor, but didn’t want to completely close things off or block airflow. At the same time, they needed a place to mount a TV that could actually be seen from the pool.
We also had to think about how the space would be used throughout the day. In Florida, you want to take advantage of both sun and shade, so the setup had to be flexible without adding anything bulky or out of place.
They also wanted to include a bar top and make sure we were using every bit of the space as efficiently as possible.
Once everything was laid out the right way, it all came together. Nothing feels forced, and every part of the space has a purpose.
